Marco Pašalić (Croatian pronunciation: [mâːrko pǎʃalitɕ];[2][3] born 14 September 2000) is a professional footballer who plays as a right winger for HNK Rijeka.[4] Born in Germany, he plays for the Croatia national team.[5]

Club career[edit]

Early career[edit]

Pašalić received his early training in his hometown with Karlsruher SC and SG Siemens Karlsruhe, as well as in the youth teams of SV Sandhausen and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. In 2016, he returned to Karlsruher, where he played for three years. Following trial training sessions at Bayern Munich and NK Osijek, he joined VfB Stuttgart II in 2019. In his debut season with the latter, he achieved the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg, which promoted them to the Regionalliga Südwest in 2020–21.[6]

Borussia Dortmund[edit]

In May 2021, it was reported that Pašalić would join Borussia Dortmund II, which had just been promoted to the 3. Liga as Regionalliga West champions.[6] After he scored two goals in three third-division games, coach Marco Rose called him into the squad of Borussia Dortmund for the 2021 DFL-Supercup. Pašalić entered as a substitute in the final phase of the 3–1 defeat against Bayern Munich.[7] A month later, on 5 September, he suffered a torn syndesmosis ligament in a 1–0 away win over TSV Havelse,[8] and was out until the end of January 2022. After his return, Pašalić sustained a shoulder injury in March which sidelined him for the remainder of the season.[9] Afterwards that year, on 8 November, he made his Bundesliga debut for Borussia Dortmund under coach Edin Terzić in a 2–0 away defeat against VfL Wolfsburg.[10]

Rijeka[edit]

In June 2023, Pašalić moved to Rijeka in the 1. HNL.[11] Later that year, on 3 August, he scored his first goal in a 6–1 victory over KF Dukagjini during the Europa Conference League qualifying phase.[12]

International career[edit]

Pašalić made appearances for the Croatian youth national teams of U17, and U21.

On 18 November 2023, Pašalić made his senior debut for Croatia in a 2–0 away win against Latvia during the Euro 2024 qualifying.[13] On 20 May 2024, he was selected in the 26-man squad for the UEFA Euro 2024.[14] A few weeks later, on 3 June, he scored his first international goal in a 3–0 friendly victory over North Macedonia prior to the tournament.[15]
