"Sesso e samba" is a song recorded by Italian rapper Tony Effe and Italian singer Gaia.[1][2] It was released on 23 May 2024 through Universal Music Italia, as the third single from the rapper second studio album Icon.[3][4]
The song peaked at number one on the Italian singles chart, becoming the first one to achieve it for both artists in their solo career.[5]
Composition[edit]
In an interview Radio 105 the singers explained the collaboration:[6]
"I had thought of this song for Gaia because I wanted to do this Italian-Brazilian union. She was the right girl. We found each other in non-work situations, then in the recording studio everything came together quickly and naturally".
Critical reception[edit]
Alessandro Alicandri of TV Sorrisi e Canzoni described the song as musically different from the previous "Taxi sulla Luna" collaboration with Emma Marrone, finding them more akin to samba music, on which he sets "a lyric that mixes singing and speaking that seems to echo 1960s swing songs".[7] Valeria Paglionico of Fanpage.it stated that the song is musically "fresh and magnetic" and that it "perfectly reflects the sensuality and complicity of the two artists".[8]
Music video[edit]
The music video for the song, directed by Attilio Cusani, was released the same day of the single, through the rapper's YouTube channel.[9]
Commercial success[edit]
Sesso e samba debouted at number ten on the Italian singles chart, becoming Tony Effe fifth top-ten solo song and Gaia third one.[10] The following week the song reached the number one, becoming the first one song to achieve it for both the artists.[11]
